Creative Thinking: Exercise 7

Solve these problems as creatively as possible.

Section 7A

  1. Encik Ramli lived in Kuala Lumpur. One morning, he woke up to find that one of the wheels of his car had a completely flat tyre. Despite this he set off in his car to visit his mother who lived in lpoh. He returned to Kuala Lumpur that night. He did not repair or inflate the flat tyre. How did he manage to make the journey?

  2. If you drive a bus with 44 people on board from Penang to Kota Bahru and drop off 4 people at each of 5 stops and pick up 2 people at 3 of the stops, when you arrive in Kota Bahru 12 hours later. What is the driver's name?

  3. There is a room. The shutters are blowing in. There is broken glass on the floor. There is water on the floor. You find Sloppy dead on the floor. How did sloppy die?

Section 7B

  1. Many years ago a private detective had to hire a new assistant. He had three candidates and he decided to give them a little quiz. He said, "Look, there's a crime that needs to be solved and there's a clue in the Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia. The clue is stuck inside a book in the Journal section, between pages 165 and 166. Two of the guys jumped up and bolted out the door. The third guy just sat there. The private detective said to the man who remained, "You got the job" Why did he get the job? What did he know that the other two candidates didn't know?

  2. A boat has a ladder that has six rungs, each rung is one foot apart. The bottom rung is one foot from the water. The tide rises at 12 inches every 15 minutes. High tide peaks in one hour. When the tide is at it's highest, how many rungs are under water?

  3. There is a house with four walls. Each wall faces south. There is a window in each wall. A bear walks by one of the windows. What colour is the bear?
